Jeff Ebbing owned the Hardee's Restaurants during the 1980's in Burlington Iowa. He was remodeling his newest restaurant and wanted a striking theme to add to the decor. So he commissioned me to paint an Art Deco style for the walls. The budget allowed me to go to the full extent of the Deco style of the 1930's, when it was so popular. Several of these paintings would have Neon tube lighting running across the paintings to draw attention.
In creating these works of art I had to turn different locations of our city, Burlington, into the Deco style. The one place that already had that style was the old Capitol Theater. I simply expanded it and added Neon tube lighting across the same spots that the actual building has. Several other paintings in this series also had the Neon tubes, which added extra color and beauty.
