When we face our subject to paint these four elements should apply. What are they; Values, Color, Drawing and Edges.
There's a reason Values is listed first...as it's understood among artist, "Values do all the work but color gets all the credit". So squint and get those values right!
Color; do your color charts...or you'll stay an amateur until you work with them to discover the colors your arty eyes can truly see.
Drawing; my high school art teacher taught me the need for accurate drawing.
I was assigned to do as many as possible in the school year. I filled five large tablets of drawings each year, amounting to be hundreds of line drawings (No shading, just outline to compare sizes of the objects)
Edges; this is where you become a Master in your style of work. Develop the eye to see what it takes to make your style an Earmark of your style.
